Retreat Info
About the Retreat:The Temple of the Way of Light is a traditional plant-medicine shamanic healing center located in the Peruvian Amazon Rainforest that offers intensive ayahuasca retreats with female and male Shipibo healers. We are dedicated to providing our guests with the opportunity to benefit from the ancient healing wisdom of the Shipibo people, and to helping this unique culture preserve its knowledge and identity in the 21st Century.
Description of Services:We work with some of the most respected and powerful healers (Onanyabo) from the Shipibo tribe. They are highly experienced, gentle, caring, and deeply dedicated to healing and embodying the wisdom and sincerity of their people. The healing traditions of the Shipibo people offer an ancient yet pioneering path to health, re-discovering our true nature and re-awakening to our true purpose.
We firmly believe in respecting and honoring the ancient practices of the Onanyabo, experts in ayahuasca healing and plant-spirit shamanism of the Amazon. They bring a rich cultural and sophisticated ethno-medical legacy to the healing process: time-honored rituals, intricate practices, an expansive cosmology, an encyclopedic knowledge of medicinal plants of the Amazon, and a far-reaching ancestral lineage.
The foundation of the Temple’s work is facilitating deep and profound healing in a safe, compassionate, and supportive setting. We work only with highly skilled healers and experienced facilitators. The cornerstones of our ayahuasca retreats in Peru are shadow work and soul integration through deep healing on all levels: physical, emotional, psychological, energetic, and spiritual. The depth of work that we provide can only be reached by working with highly trained healers, each carrying generations of experience.
We recognize that it takes a symphony to provide lasting taproot-level healing. It is not possible to extract one element (ayahuasca) from the 'orchestra' that is available by working with an immeasurable number of doctor plant spirits channelled by the healers in ceremony. We offer ayahuasca healing at the highest and safest level available in the Amazon.Practitioners:Ynes Sanchez Gonzales

Overview of Experience:An ayahuasca retreat at the Temple offers an immersion in the highly sophisticated ethnomedical traditions of the Shipibo people . We deeply honor and respect the indigenous healing traditions of the Amazon that have evolved over thousands of years to offer the most effective ayahuasca healing experience.
Indigenous healers are the true experts in trauma at all levels - ancestral, developmental, acute and vicarious - the source / taproots of all discomfort, disconnection, and turmoil in the world, individually and collectively.
They bring a rich cultural and medicinal legacy, time-honored rituals, intricate practices, an expansive cosmology, an encyclopedic knowledge of medicinal plants of the Amazon, and a far-reaching ancestral lineage to the healing process.
We constantly strive to create the optimal conditions and orientation to work with ayahuasca and are passionately dedicated to providing a genuinely caring, highly professional, and exceptionally supportive setting. Creating a safe, sacred space for our guests to heal and transform is our priority. Awakening is our mission.
Our carefully selected healers are experts in holding ceremonies according to the traditional practices of the Amazon basin, and we adhere to these ancient procedures so that our ceremonies meet the highest standards of safety and the deepest levels of healing.
Our handpicked team of experienced facilitators will be your bridge to the healers and a constant presence both in and out of each ayahuasca ceremony, providing support and gentle encouragement to connect with your own inner power and wisdom. Ayahuasca activates an innate healing intelligence that brings to the surface images, memories, feelings, emotions and experiences in order for the individual to work through trauma, imbalance and dysfunction.
Shadow material will emerge from the deep subconscious/unconscious and knowing how to, or how not to, face this material is one of the keys to healing and lasting transformation. Skilled facilitators are able to gently encourage guests to not shrink from difficult experiences but to face, witness or explore them.
Our healers and facilitators will give an in-depth ayahuasca talk before your first ayahuasca ceremony, clearly explaining the work with the medicine, how to get the most from your experience, insight into the world of traditional Amazonian plant medicine and background on our team of healers and the Shipibo tradition. This offers you a firm base of understanding for your healing journey with the medicine.
The ceremony space itself will be held by our team of four healers (two female and two male) and ikaros (the healing songs from the plants), the facilitators and an assistant who helps guests to and from the toilets if necessary. Together, they form a highly experienced team who are able to meet any of your needs in ceremony with skill and compassion.
The healing you will receive will cleanse a significant amount of dense energies that have accumulated in your system as well as bring up many aspects of your past that have been buried in your subconscious. Ayahuasca helps dissolve the illusory self and significantly increases awareness of self-constructed boundaries, highlighting and helping release fear-filled and self-limiting beliefs.
Ayahuasca initiates a long-term healing journey that supports overall liberation from the hypnosis of conditioning – shining a light onto your shadow and helping you to become aware of your patterns, intimate with your fears, embrace your shadow, and consciously parent yourself back to wholeness.
It is important to understand that this process not only takes place during the ceremonies but also normally for weeks and months after a retreat. Ayahuasca and the plant spirits will continue to work with you after you leave the Temple and the more self-reflection, courage, responsibility, and awareness you bring to the process during this crucial phase, the more benefits you will gain.
Integration:
The medicine does not stop working when the ceremony ends or when the retreat is over. Ayahuasca initiates a healing process deep within our soul that unfolds over time and can take months or years. The goal of integration is to maximize that healing process.
It is guaranteed that we will face challenges on our return home. They may be big or small, difficult or easy to navigate, but there will for sure be challenges. In the Amazon, traditional healers working with plant spirit medicine talk about the plants ‘testing’ us. These are the teachings of the plants. These life challenges or upsets can be perfect opportunities to practice what we’ve learned and to relate to old situations in new ways. Navigating the integration process while also trying to live life, with work, kids, family, relationships, and everything else to manage can be extremely challenging.
Integration is really what grounds your healing: where YOU take the reins in implementing the lessons from the medicine, taking steps forward in your life as an empowered being, consciously guiding and practising the positive changes you want to make in your life. During retreat, we will guide and support you as you integrate your ceremony experiences, and equip you with tools to help yourself through this process of continued healing after you return home.
We also have a team of Integration Facilitators available to you after retreat to help you process your experiences or challenges that arise for you, and are in the process of developing a long-term Continuing Care Program that will provide our guests with even more tools, support, and guidance post-retreat.
Intake Process:Upon registration, each applicant completes a comprehensive medical questionnaire that gathers information regarding their current health situation and allows us to assess whether the Temple will be able to support them during their medicine journey.
We are in touch with each applicant via email to confirm if we are able to approve them to attend the retreat within about a week after they submit their application. (For select special programs where there is a set application deadline, we are in touch with all applicants regarding their approval after the deadline.)
We decline approx. 30% of applications and ensure that safety standards are set at the highest level.
Supplemental Modalities: Ontological Processing Work, Compassionate Inquiry, Self Inquiry, Yoga, Yin Yoga, Meditation, Group Processing, Individual ConsultationsPsychedelic Substances Offered: AyahuascaHow does this Center source medicine?:Our medicine comes from two of the Temple healers, who source both leaf and vine from sustainable ayahuasca plantations in the Ucayali region. The healers cook the medicine in line with decades of training, activate the medicine with their diets, and do not use any admixtures.
We also harvest ayahuasca and chacruna at the Temple which has been grown sustainably over the last 12 years. Temple healers will cook the medicine on-site, with decades of experience in how to prepare quality medicine and not using admixtures.
