Practitioners:Laura Shapiro, CEO and Founder
Laura Shapiro is recognized as one of the world’s foremost authorities on Ibogaine and addiction recovery. After surviving nearly two decades of opiate addiction and exhausting traditional rehab approaches, she turned to Ibogaine in 2006 as a last resort – an experience that transformed her life and inspired her to help others.
Her recovery led to a mentorship with Dr. Deborah Mash, the only doctor granted FDA approval to study Ibogaine, where she worked on staff at the University of Miami’s Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine, Department of Neurology. Over the following decade, she co-founded and served as Director of Admissions for a leading Ibogaine clinic, personally guiding thousands of clients through medical intakes, onboarding, and safety protocols – establishing herself as one of the most trusted and experienced figures in the field.
Today, Ms. Shapiro is the CEO and Founder of Bassé, a mission-driven company dedicated to setting a new standard in Ibogaine treatment. Bassé combines world-class medical support, holistic healing modalities, and meticulous integration practices with a boutique, five-star client experience. For Ms. Shapiro, Bassé is both a professional calling and a labor of love – a realization of her long-held vision to expand access to safe, compassionate, and transformative healing. She considers it an honor to lead this work alongside a gifted team, helping individuals reclaim their lives and embrace recovery.
Kat Courtney, Head of Integration and Aftercare
Kat Courtney is a pioneering figure in the modern plant medicine movement. She is a traditionally trained Ayahuasquera and Huachumera with over 20 years of professional experience working with psychedelics. Kat apprenticed for more than a decade within the revered Shipibo-Conibo and Quechua-Lamista traditions, developing an immensely profound understanding of shamanic healing traditions. She is the Co-Founder and CEO of Plant Medicine People, a community and platform dedicated to honoring and advancing the transformative power of plant medicines.
At Bassé, Kat plays a vital role in preserving shamanic integrity and maintaining a sincere connection to Iboga’s tribal roots. She offers her specialized integration protocols and guidance for all aspects of Bassé’s aftercare, ensuring that each journey toward healing is rooted in respect, reverence, and genuine spiritual connection.
Dr. Juan Manuel Quijada Gaytán, Medical Director

I went through treatment at Bassé a few months ago, and it was a truly transformative experience. The staff was incredibly supportive and professional, creating an environment where I felt safe and cared for the entire time. I’m deeply grateful for the healing and guidance I received here!
Wow—this entire experience has been absolutely incredible.
From start to finish, I felt deeply cared for and supported. The 24-hour medical staff was attentive, professional, and always present, which gave me a strong sense of safety throughout the process. The medical screening prior to treatment was thorough and reassuring, and the holistic team—from integration support to emotional care—was just as essential in helping me feel truly held.
The treatment itself was life-changing. I feel like a new person—no longer governed by the traumas that once weighed me down.
The location is also absolutely stunning. It feels like a seamless blend of a high-end boutique hotel and an ibogaine wellness sanctuary.
Bassé changed my life, and I am genuinely and forever grateful…
