About Me:I am Candyce D. Tart, PhD (she/her), a licensed clinical psychologist and the owner of Cedar Psychology Services. With years of experience working within the VA Healthcare System, I’ve had the privilege of serving U.S. Military Veterans, gaining invaluable insight into the treatment of diverse mental and behavioral health challenges. I am deeply committed to providing compassionate care, adapting my approach to each client’s unique needs.
In 2024, I founded Cedar Psychology Services to meet the growing demand for accessible, high-quality mental health care in New Mexico and Colorado, offering telehealth services and face-to-face services (in New Mexico). I utilize evidence-based practices while remaining attuned to the cultural and personal context of each individual, creating an environment where clients feel seen, heard, and supported.
I offer a blend of therapeutic approaches that includes ACT, CBT, mindfulness-based approaches, and parts work, with an emphasis on scientific rigor and cultural sensitivity, tailoring each session to help clients make meaningful progress. Most clients achieve their therapeutic goals in 8-12 sessions. I believe in the power of collaboration, and I work closely with clients to develop personalized treatment plans that align with their values and aspirations.
In addition to my general therapeutic practice, I am certified in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy by the Integrative Psychiatry Institute. This training includes expertise in the use of psilocybin, ketamine, and MDMA for therapeutic purposes. I offer preparation and integration therapy for individuals undergoing psychedelic treatments, supporting them through these transformative experiences with care, empathy, and evidence-based guidance.
I am warm, grounded, and committed to helping you navigate life’s challenges with a holistic, supportive approach.

Overview of Experience:Training & Experience
I earned my PhD in Clinical Psychology from Southern Methodist University in 2012, following the completion of my APA-accredited internship at the Southwest Consortium Doctoral Psychology Internship program in Albuquerque, NM. This foundational training laid the groundwork for my deep commitment to mental health care and my focus on evidence-based therapeutic practices. After receiving my doctorate, I continued my professional development with an APA-accredited postdoctoral residency specializing in Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) at the New Mexico VA Health Care System in 2013. During my residency, I honed my expertise in trauma-informed care, working with Veterans to address the unique challenges posed by PTSD and other mental health concerns.
My graduate studies focused on the research and treatment of anxiety disorders, PTSD, and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). I’ve authored 17 peer-reviewed journal articles on these topics, contributing to the academic community's understanding of these complex issues and their effective treatment.
From 2013-2024, I worked as a clinical psychologist in the VA system, where I’ve had the privilege of serving in both clinical and leadership roles. This experience has provided me with invaluable skills in managing a wide range of mental health conditions while training and mentoring psychology and psychiatry residents. My clinical work in this setting deepened my understanding of the diverse needs of individuals coping with trauma, anxiety, and complex psychological challenges.
In addition to my work in traditional therapy, I have completed extensive training in Ketamine-Assisted Therapy, Psilocybin-Assisted Therapy, and MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy through the Integrative Psychiatry Institute. This advanced certification has equipped me with the skills to guide individuals through transformative psychedelic-assisted treatments, with a focus on preparation, integration, and healing.
I hold active Clinical Psychology licenses in both New Mexico and Colorado, and I am passionate about providing clients with the highest level of care, drawing on both traditional and emerging therapeutic approaches to support their healing journey.
Intake Process:I offer a complimentary 15-minute consultation to help us determine if we’re a good fit for working together. During this brief call, we can discuss your needs and I can answer any questions you may have about my approach to therapy.
If it feels like a good match, we’ll schedule a 90-minute initial intake session. In this session, I will conduct a comprehensive interview to better understand your current symptoms, their context, and any factors that may be influencing your well-being. I’ll also gather a full biopsychosocial history, which includes background information on your physical, mental, and emotional health, as well as your life experiences. This thorough assessment allows me to create a tailored treatment plan designed specifically to support your goals and needs.
